The Wellfleet Center Historic District, the Paine Hollow Historic District in South Wellfleet, and several individual Historic Sites were accepted for listing on the National Register of Historic Places in 1989. Many members of the Wellfleet Historical Society collaborated for several years to compile documentation for the applications for nominations requested by the Massachusetts Historical Commission. These applications, when approved, were forwarded for official recognition on the National Register.
The original Wellfleet applications contains valuable information, including photographs, about the individual properties included in our Historic Districts and are in the Massachusetts Historical Commission Archive in Boston. Photocopies can be seen at the Wellfleet Historical Society Museum.
